Hello there, I’m Maggie and I love books! I find that reading is such a beautiful way to experience the world around us. It is a way to travel back in time and to travel around the world. It exposes us to ideas worth thinking about, sparks imagination, makes us more empathetic, and brings beauty into our world.
My family and I keep ourselves busy on our homestead, which we have built (and still are building) from the ground up. My hobbies include reading (no surprise there), spending time in the kitchen, taking care of our livestock, and going on walks through the lane on our property (I like to imagine that I’m Anne walking through Lover’s Lane).
My Irish Setter, Rosie, is one of my constant companions. She’s my very own Big Red brought to life.
I’m a country girl through and through, and one of my favorite places to be is on my milking stool each morning, nestled up to the flank of my ever so patient milk cow, Buttercup.
I am a rather optimistic person and my husband says I am a lot like Pollyanna. What can I say? The glad game really works.
As a way of merging my hobbies, I also enjoy recreating some of the scrumptious food that my family and I come across in the stories we read. It is enjoyable to share those recipes with others.
In case you are curious, here is a list of some of my all time favorite books (there’s probably a hundred other books that I could add to this list!):
All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot
Chronicles of Narnia Series by C.S. Lewis
Hannah Coulter by Wendall Berry
Heidi by Johanna Spyri
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
Little Britches Series by Ralph Moody
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
Pilgrim’s Inn by Elizabeth Goudge
Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransome
The Chestry Oak by Kate Seredy
The Shaping of a Christian Family by Elisabeth Elliot
Thrush Green Series by Miss Read
Time of Wonder by Robert McCloskey
Understood Betsy by Dorothy Canfield Fisher
White Bird Flying by Bess Streeter Aldrich
The fabric of my family has been shaped by the many stories and books we have shared together. My hope is that this website will bless you and your family as you dive into the beautiful world of living books.
